If you want to spruce up your home at a low cost and don't have much artistic ability, try stenciling. Stenciling is a folk art form of painting that came about as an alternative to buying new wallpaper or rugs.

Traditional home decorating stencils usually focus on leaves, flowers and other everyday items, but there's really no limit today on what you can create, or where you can put a stencil.

You can add a wonderful home decorating touch to your walls, a special piece of furniture or even your floors. I've been doing lamp shades lately.

One of the advantages of home decorating stenciling today is that you can buy modern plastic stencils that don't tear or fall apart like in the old days at any craft store.  The variety of designs is endless and usually comes with some basic instructions. If not, they have some inexpensive booklets available.

The key to home decorating with stencils is having the right brush, securing the stencil and using the right paint. If you are new to stenciling I recommend you practice on a piece of paper until you feel comfortable.
